After you’ve drafted your memoir’s beginning, set it aside for a couple of weeks—or longer, if you can.
Then look at it again. Ask yourself:
- Will it grab my readers?
- Will it surprise them? Stir up curiosity?
- Make them laugh? Or make them cry?
- Will it intrigue them? Charm them?
- Most important: Will it motivate them to keep reading?
If not, rewrite your beginning.
And please don’t feel bad about that.
